Workstation snapshots allow you to preserve the state of the virtual machine so you can return to the same state repeatedly. For a detailed description of how you might use snapshots, see the chapter about preserving the state of a virtual machine, in the VMware Workstation User’s Manual.
• You can disable snapshots for the virtual machine. The virtual machine must not have any snapshots if you want to disable snapshots.
•
• Just power off — Powers off without making any changes to snapshots.
• Revert to the snapshot — Reverts to the parent snapshot of the current state of the virtual machine. This option ensures that the virtual machine always starts in the state in which the snapshot was taken.
• Take a new snapshot — Takes a new snapshot of the virtual machine state after it is powered off.
• Ask me — Prompts you, every time you power off a virtual machine, to specify whether you want to just power off, revert, or take a snapshot.
• For Workstation 5 and 6 virtual machines, you can enable recording and replaying of virtual machine activity. For more information about this experimental feature and the prerequisites to using it, see the chapter about preserving the state of a virtual machine in the VMware Workstation User’s Manual. This feature can be used only when gathering debugging information. Enabling this feature will automatically set Gather debugging information on the Advanced tab to Full. For best performance, you should reset the debugging option to None when you disable the record/replay feature.
