Virtual Machine Hardware Tab : Generic SCSI Settings Panel

Generic SCSI Settings Panel
Generic SCSI lets a virtual machine run any SCSI device that is supported by the guest operating system in the virtual machine. Generic SCSI gives the guest operating system direct access to SCSI devices connected to the host computer, such as scanners and tape drives. Make sure the virtual machine is powered off before you add or remove a generic SCSI device.
You can set the following options in the Device status section:
Connected — Use this check box to connect or disconnect the device while the virtual machine is running.
Connect at power on — Select this check box if you want the device to be connected automatically whenever you power on the virtual machine. You can change this setting when the virtual machine is powered on or powered off.
In the Connection section, specify the physical SCSI device to connect to — enter the name of the /dev/sg entry for the device you want to install in the virtual machine. For example, if this device is named sga, then type /dev/sga. For more information about these entries, and for information about the required permissions for the device, see the chapter about connecting devices in the Workstation User’s Manual.
To make changes to the Virtual device node section, make sure the virtual machine is powered off. Use the Virtual device node list to select which SCSI device identifier to use for the drive. For example, if you select SCSI 0:2, the guest operating system sees the drive as ID 2 on controller 0.

Note For specific Windows guest operating systems, you might need to perform additional configuration steps to use the virtual Generic SCSI device. Refer to the Workstation User’s Manual.
