To change the amount of memory used by the selected virtual machine, use the slider in the Memory section, or type in a value in megabytes. The high end of the range that appears is determined by the amount of memory allocated to all running virtual machines. If you are allowing virtual machine memory to be swapped, this value changes to reflect the amount of swapping that was specified. The Memory section provides the following information to help you choose an appropriate amount of memory for the virtual machine. A color-coded icon corresponds to each value. To use one of these amounts, line the slider up with the corresponding icon.
• Guest OS recommended minimum — The minimum that the operating system vendor recommends for the operating system to run.
• Recommended memory — The minimum that VMware recommends for running this virtual machine. If you allocate more or less memory than is recommended, your virtual machine might perform poorly. This recommendation takes into account the amount of memory allocated for all powered-on virtual machines, as described in Memory Tab.
• Maximum recommended memory — The maximum that VMware recommends for best performance when this virtual machine is the only virtual machine running. Allocating more memory to this virtual machine can have a negative impact on the host’s performance, including the host’s ability to run Workstation properly.
