Virtual Machine Hardware Tab : Sound Adapter Settings Panel

Sound Adapter Settings Panel
If the host operating system is configured for sound and the host has a sound card installed, you can enable sound for a virtual machine.
The virtual sound device is compatible with a Creative Technology Sound Blaster Audio API. It supports sound in Windows and Linux guest operating systems.
Sound support includes PCM (pulse code modulation) output and input. For example, you can play .wav files, MP3 audio, and Real Media audio. MIDI output for Windows guests is supported through the Windows software synthesizer. MIDI input is not supported, and no MIDI support is available for Linux guests.
Most later versions of Windows and most Linux distributions automatically detect the sound device and install appropriate drivers for it.
Make sure the virtual machine is powered off before you add or remove a sound adapter.
You can set the following options in the Device status section:
Connected — Use this check box to connect or disconnect the sound device while the virtual machine is running.
Connect at power on — Select this check box if you want the sound device to be connected automatically whenever you power on the virtual machine. You can change this setting when the virtual machine is powered on or powered off.
In the Connection section, you can choose which sound adapter to use if you have more than one physical sound adapter on your host computer. Select Use physical sound adapter, and select the device you want to use from the drop-down list.
