Some operating systems poll the CD-ROM drive every second or so to see whether a disc is present. This polling allows the system to run autorun programs. But this polling can cause Workstation to connect to the host CD-ROM or DVD drive, which can make the drive spin up while the virtual machine appears to pause.
Because of this undesirable behavior, the autorun feature is disabled by default. Therefore, you need to manually connect to the CD-ROM drive by using the
VM > Removable Devices menu.
If you want to enable the autorun feature, you can use the Devices tab in the preferences editor and clear the
Disable autorun check box. You need to be logged in as a user that is part of the Administrators group in order to have permission to change this setting.
