Choose: Team > Settings > LAN SegmentsLAN segments are virtual networks that are available only to team virtual machines. LAN segments offer increased performance and security. A team LAN segment is fully contained, undetectable, and inaccessible from any other network, inside or outside the team.On the LAN Segments tab, you can add, remove, and configure team LAN segments:
• To add a new LAN segment, click Add, and use the fields in the Settings section to change the default values, including the name, if desired.
• To remove an existing LAN segment, highlight the name of the LAN segment you wish to remove and click Remove. Deleting a LAN segment disconnects all virtual Ethernet adapters that are configured for that LAN segment.
• To configure a LAN segment, use the fields in the Settings section. In addition to changing the name of the segment, you can configure the following settings:
• You can set the bandwidth for a LAN segment in two different ways. Use the Bandwidth drop-down menu to set the bandwidth of the LAN segment to match one of several typical network links. Or use the Kbps field to specify a numeric throughput upper limit. Changes here are overwritten when you make a selection from the Bandwidth list.
• In the Packet Loss field, to simulate packet loss over the LAN segment, specify the desired percentage of packets lost from the total number of packets transmitted. This setting lets you specify of the efficiency or faultiness of the link.
Note LAN settings changes are ignored by virtual machines that are currently running. Changes to LAN settings become active for a given virtual machine only after that virtual machine is powered on, reset, or resumed. In order for a team virtual machine to have access to a team LAN segment, you must connect that virtual machine to the LAN segment. Only virtual machines that have been connected to the LAN segment will have access to that LAN segment. For information on how to connect a team virtual machine to a LAN segment, see Team Connections and Ethernet Adapter Settings Panel. An entire chapter of the VMware Workstation User’s Manual is devoted to using virtual machine teams. Several sections discuss creating and configuring LAN segments.
